AI-Generated Content Labels: Google Ads and YouTube Checklist for Brands

Google and YouTube expanded transparency measures for AI-generated and meaningfully altered content in 2026. Google Ads is adding information about AI-assisted ad creation to My Ad Center, while YouTube is making labels more visible and using additional signals to detect realistic synthetic content. Brands need a repeatable disclosure and approval process, not case-by-case guesswork.
What changed in 2026
Google says ads created or edited with its generative AI tools can receive information in a “How this ad was made” section. YouTube moved disclosure labels for realistic, meaningfully altered or generated content into more prominent placements and introduced additional automatic detection signals. A label does not automatically mean the content is prohibited or demonetized, but inaccurate disclosure can create trust and policy risk.
Create an AI-content classification rule
Classify each asset as unaltered, lightly edited, clearly fictional, meaningfully altered or realistic synthetic media. Record which tool changed the face, voice, event, location, product, claim or testimonial. Assign an owner to decide whether platform disclosure is required. When uncertain, consult the current platform policy and the organization’s legal or compliance team.
Protect claims, likeness and rights
Obtain permission for identifiable people, voices, trademarks and licensed source material. Verify product demonstrations and outcomes separately from the visual-generation process. Keep source files, prompts, approvals, licenses and final exports. Do not create synthetic testimonials, implied endorsements or documentary-looking scenes that could mislead viewers about a material fact.
Add disclosure to the production workflow
Include AI-use fields in the brief, storyboard, edit review and upload checklist. Require agencies and creators to identify every generative tool used. Review the final file after platform processing because metadata and labels can change. Maintain an escalation route for incorrect automated labeling. Garage Collective can build disclosure, rights review and human approval into the creative production workflow before assets reach paid media or YouTube. Explore Creative & Design and Brand Films.

Google's October 2026 AI Content Guidance: SEO and E-E-A-T Checklist
Google updated its guidance on generative AI content on 1 October 2026, aligning the documentation more closely with its Search Quality Rater Guidelines. The update does not create a special ranking system for AI-written pages. It sharpens the standard that matters: content should serve a clear audience, demonstrate real expertise and make factual claims easy to verify. For Indian marketing teams using AI at scale, the operational question is no longer whether AI may be used. It is whether every published page adds original value, accountable authorship and dependable evidence.
