A real CRO teardown needs a specific page, traffic source, device mix, funnel data and-ideally-before-and-after evidence. Without those inputs, advice is only a hypothesis. This article therefore provides a one-page D2C audit framework for India: 12 observable leaks, the evidence to collect and a simple impact-confidence-effort priority score. Use it to triage a live page before deciding what to test.

Start with page, traffic and funnel context

Record the page URL and version, campaign, ad creative, audience, device split, new versus returning users, landing sessions, product views, add-to-cart events, checkout starts, purchases, payment method, cancellations and return-to-origin (RTO). Compare the same date window and traffic mix. If event tracking is missing, label the audit qualitative. Never present a visual opinion as a measured conversion result. For a broader acquisition-measurement model, see /blog/performance-marketing-benchmarks-framework-india-2026.

Leaks 1–3: message match and the first mobile screen

1. Ad-to-page mismatch: compare the exact promise, product, price, offer and visual in the ad with the landing page. 2. Unclear first-screen proposition: a mobile visitor should understand what the product is, who it is for and why it is different without scrolling. 3. Weak first-screen proof or action: place a specific primary CTA near relevant proof-such as review count, verified outcome or delivery promise-without inventing claims. Inspect paid-search, social and influencer landings separately because intent differs.

Leaks 4–6: trust, delivery, COD and returns

4. Trust proof without context: label the source and date of ratings, testimonials, certifications and expert claims. 5. Delivery or COD ambiguity: show pincode serviceability, estimated delivery, prepaid/COD availability and any fee before late checkout. 6. Hidden returns or refunds: state eligibility, exclusions, window, pickup process and refund timing in plain language. Track COD conversion, prepaid share, confirmation success, cancellation and RTO separately; a lift in low-quality COD orders can destroy margin. Delhivery’s FY2024 annual report also identifies COD RTO as a merchant-margin issue: https://www.delhivery.com/uploads/2024/08/Annual_Report_FY24.pdf.

Leaks 7–9: mobile performance and product-decision friction

7. Slow main content: measure the 75th percentile by device; Google’s ‘good’ thresholds are LCP at or below 2.5 seconds, INP at or below 200 milliseconds and CLS at or below 0.1. 8. Delayed interaction or layout shift: test menus, galleries, variant selection, sticky CTAs and payment widgets on representative mid-range phones and networks. 9. Product-decision gaps: make price, size or variant guidance, ingredients/materials, usage, delivery and policy answers easy to find. Use field data where available; lab Total Blocking Time is only a proxy for INP. Leaks 10–12: CTA, cart and checkout friction

10. CTA ambiguity: use one clear primary action with a predictable outcome, repeated only where the buyer has enough information to decide. 11. Cart surprise: reveal delivery charges, taxes, minimums, coupon rules and expected arrival before payment; Baymard’s checkout research treats unexpected extra costs as a major abandonment driver. 12. Checkout friction: offer guest checkout where suitable, remove nonessential fields, use clear inline validation and explain UPI, card, wallet and COD states-including payment failure and retry. Prioritise fixes and design a valid test

Score each leak for Impact (1–5), Confidence (1–5) and Effort (1–5), then calculate priority = (Impact × Confidence) ÷ Effort. Confidence must reflect evidence quality: funnel data and repeated usability findings outrank opinion. Turn the top item into one decision-changing hypothesis, define a primary metric such as purchase rate or qualified lead rate, and add guardrails including average order value, cancellation, refund and RTO. Predeclare the comparison window and sample rule when traffic supports an experiment. With low traffic, combine moderated usability sessions, recordings, intercept feedback and a staged rollout; do not claim statistical significance you do not have. Frequently asked questions

Why is my D2C landing page not converting?

Start with evidence, not a generic redesign. Check the 12 leaks across acquisition context, message match, first-screen clarity, trust, COD and returns, mobile performance, product information, CTA, cart and checkout. Then locate the largest funnel drop by channel and device before choosing a fix.

What conversion rate should an Indian D2C brand target?

There is no responsible universal target. Conversion varies by category, price, device, channel, customer mix, attribution window and whether cancellations or RTO are excluded. Build an internal baseline by channel, device and product, then optimize profitable completed orders-not just checkout events.

What are the highest-impact CRO fixes?

The usual candidates are ad-to-page match, first-screen clarity, mobile performance, credible proof, delivery/COD/return transparency and checkout friction. The correct first fix is the item with the strongest observed evidence and highest impact-confidence-effort score, not the most fashionable tactic.

Can I do CRO with low traffic?

Yes. Use funnel diagnostics, five-to-eight task-based usability sessions, session recordings with privacy controls, customer-support themes and short intercept surveys to remove obvious friction. Validate major changes through staged rollout and directional monitoring, but avoid false precision or underpowered A/B-test claims.

Google's October 2026 AI Content Guidance: SEO and E-E-A-T Checklist

Abhishek Dwivedi11 min read

Google updated its guidance on generative AI content on 1 October 2026, aligning the documentation more closely with its Search Quality Rater Guidelines. The update does not create a special ranking system for AI-written pages. It sharpens the standard that matters: content should serve a clear audience, demonstrate real expertise and make factual claims easy to verify. For Indian marketing teams using AI at scale, the operational question is no longer whether AI may be used. It is whether every published page adds original value, accountable authorship and dependable evidence.
