Gmail Demand Gen Ads: Creative Specs, Landing Pages and Measurement
Abhishek Dwivedi

Gmail is part of Google’s Demand Gen inventory and can place visual ads in the Promotions and Social tabs. Google’s September 2026 update introduced a one-click path from eligible Gmail image ads to the advertiser’s landing page. The reduced interaction makes creative clarity, mobile page quality and channel-level measurement more important, because the destination must immediately fulfil the promise made in the inbox.
Where Gmail fits inside Demand Gen
Demand Gen can distribute image, video, carousel and product-feed experiences across eligible Google surfaces. Gmail is an inbox environment where the ad competes with promotional messages and must communicate value quickly. Use channel controls and reporting to understand Gmail rather than treating all Demand Gen inventory as one undifferentiated placement.
The September 2026 one-click update reduces the path from eligible image ads to the advertiser’s site. It does not remove the need for accurate audience signals, coherent creative or a landing page that works on mobile.
Build the required creative set
Google’s current Demand Gen specifications recommend horizontal 1.91:1 images at 1200×628, square 1:1 images at 1200×1200 and vertical 4:5 images at 960×1200, with minimum dimensions documented in the help centre. Provide a square logo, concise business name, multiple headlines and descriptions.
Design for small screens and quick scanning. Use one clear proposition, readable visual hierarchy and an image that explains the offer without relying on tiny embedded text. Keep claims, price and availability aligned with the destination.
Prepare the one-click landing page
Match the headline, product, offer and visual from the ad in the first mobile viewport. Remove unnecessary interstitials and test page speed, layout shifts, form behaviour, checkout, deep links and error states on common devices and connections. Preserve campaign parameters across redirects and payment steps.
For lead generation, explain what happens after submission and request only necessary fields. For ecommerce, show price, delivery, returns and stock before requiring account creation. A faster click path increases the cost of a weak destination because more users reach it directly.
Set up reporting and conversion quality
Use channel and asset reporting where available to isolate Gmail delivery and performance. Track qualified conversions, revenue, margin, cancellations, refunds, lead qualification and downstream sales. Compare these with impression, click and landing-page engagement data to diagnose whether the problem is creative, traffic or the destination.
Google reported an aggregate conversion improvement for advertisers adding Gmail, but that internal benchmark is not a forecast for an individual account. Preserve a pre-change baseline and test Gmail with stable bidding, budgets and conversion definitions.
Run a controlled launch
Launch with complete horizontal, square and vertical coverage, several distinct messages and one landing-page hypothesis. Check approval, placement distribution, asset performance and conversion quality daily during the learning period. Avoid changing every variable at once.

Google's October 2026 AI Content Guidance: SEO and E-E-A-T Checklist
Google updated its guidance on generative AI content on 1 October 2026, aligning the documentation more closely with its Search Quality Rater Guidelines. The update does not create a special ranking system for AI-written pages. It sharpens the standard that matters: content should serve a clear audience, demonstrate real expertise and make factual claims easy to verify. For Indian marketing teams using AI at scale, the operational question is no longer whether AI may be used. It is whether every published page adds original value, accountable authorship and dependable evidence.
