WhatsApp Business AI in India: Eligibility, Setup and Sales Workflow

Meta launched Business AI on the WhatsApp Business app for eligible small and medium-sized businesses in India in 2026. It can answer questions, recommend products, capture leads and support appointments in Indian languages. The opportunity is significant, but the quality of the experience depends on accurate business information, clear escalation rules and disciplined measurement.
What WhatsApp Business AI can handle
Meta says eligible businesses can use Business AI to respond around the clock, answer questions about products, services, prices, shipping and discounts, recommend products and support lead capture. The business owner can take over when a conversation becomes complex. Meta has also announced future support for payments within chats using UPI. Eligibility and feature access should be confirmed in the Tools section of the WhatsApp Business app.
Prepare the knowledge and catalog
Clean the business profile, catalog, prices, availability, policies, service areas and frequently asked questions before activating automation. Write short answers for delivery time, returns, warranties, appointment changes and payment safety. Remove expired offers and conflicting information. Define the brand tone with examples, but do not allow tone to override factual accuracy. Sensitive requests, complaints, refunds and high-value purchases should move to a trained person.
Design the lead and sales workflow
Map the journey from first question to qualification, recommendation, human handoff, payment and post-purchase support. Ask only for information that is necessary. Identify consent requirements before adding people to promotional messaging. Tag conversations by intent and outcome, not by sensitive personal assumptions. Create a service-level target for human takeover and a fallback message for outages or uncertain answers.
Measure business value
Track response time, containment rate, human-handoff rate, qualified leads, appointments, orders, repeat questions and customer complaints. Compare the quality of assisted orders with other channels, including cancellation and return rates. Review failed answers every week and update the source information. Connect WhatsApp to the broader customer journey and contact strategy rather than treating it as a standalone chatbot. Garage Collective’s AI workflow practice maps business knowledge, automation, lead routing, human handoff and measurement before deployment. Google's October 2026 AI Content Guidance: SEO and E-E-A-T Checklist
Google updated its guidance on generative AI content on 1 October 2026, aligning the documentation more closely with its Search Quality Rater Guidelines. The update does not create a special ranking system for AI-written pages. It sharpens the standard that matters: content should serve a clear audience, demonstrate real expertise and make factual claims easy to verify. For Indian marketing teams using AI at scale, the operational question is no longer whether AI may be used. It is whether every published page adds original value, accountable authorship and dependable evidence.
